What is remark.ing and how to get started

Remark.ing is a chronological aggregation of blog posts (or "remarks"). It is very similar to twitter, mastodon, bluesky, or an RSS reader. You write your remarks using markwhen and the meridiem editor and they become public entries on remark.ing if your document is shared and has the right entries in its header. More on that below.

Why?

I've been working on markwhen for a while primarily as a tool to make timelines. It works very well for this. However, I am (or should be) also writing content and markwhen seemed to be a fairly obvious solution to some of my content-writing woes.

  • Creating, editing, and deleting are all easier - everything happens in one file
  • I didn't want to leave meridiem / I wanted to use my own editor for writing so I would find more of its flaws and opportunities for improvements
  • I don't like tweeting, for some reason
  • I generally prefer as-little-overhead-as-possible solutions to problems. What's easier than one single file that contains my thoughts on things?
