Vibe/AI coding is going to bolster trends like local first software and self hosting.

1. As vibe coders produce apps that are "reckless and dangerous", or that are merely bad stewards of your data, to say the least, trust in online platforms will fall. And trust in online platforms isn't exactly high to begin with.

2. The barrier to making your own bespoke software to do exactly what you want, without needing to work around products that are built for a general population, is lowering drastically.

So that leads to two conclusions:

1. The utility of the internet (at least, the internet as it looks today) is going to tank because no one's going to trust their data is safe, thanks to vibecoders showing just how bad of apps one can make. It used to be that your reputation was at stake if you made something so bad. Maybe people don't care about their reputation anymore? Velocity / growth > reputation?

2. The desire to ensure data safety/privacy will move people towards self hosting. A well-timed solution would take off here, in my opinion - a home box that is as easy to use (and set up!) as an iPhone that provides document/media storage and basic work apps would kill. Tailscale and setups like umbrel suggest we're close.
