My take on Don't Repeat Yourself (DRY): Repeat Yourself At Least Three Times (RYALTT).
Trying to abstract too soon means you won't know all the necessary cases you should try to abstract for. But when you've repeated yourself 3 times already, you can specifically target those other copies in your abstraction.
